Agrigento

Among the largest archaeological sites in the world, the Valley of the Temples lies on the rocky ridge that delimits to the south the plateau on which ancient Akragas stood: declared a world heritage site. ‘Humanity fromUNESCO, is one of the largest and most wonderful testimonies of the ancient world found on Italian territory together with the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Located on a plateau not far from the sea, a stone’s throw from the historic center of Agrigento, the Valley of the Temples is famous throughout the world for the imposing Doric temples which constitute a of the most significant testimonies of Greek culture and art.

The Greek temples, symbols of the city of Agrigento for centuries, are universally recognized as the most fascinating and majestic testimony that Great Greece has left as a legacy to Sicily and the whole of Italy.
Two examples above all: the temple of the Dioscuri and the temple of Heracles.
